Christine Ferreira

Meteorologist

Who says you can’t go back? Christine Ferreira has returned home to the Susquehanna Valley and to the News 8 Storm Team. Ferreira, who was an intern at WGAL during her college years, now forecasts the weather on News 8 broadcasts weekday mornings on News 8 Today from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Ferreira is a Chester County native and a Millersville University graduate, earning a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. While at MU, Christine served a three-semester internship at WGAL, studying under News 8’s Joe Calhoun.

Most recently Christine worked as a weekday morning meteorologist at WEWS-TV in Cleveland, Ohio. She really understands the meaning of “lake effect snow,” first hand. Her first broadcasting job was at KAVU-TV in Victoria, Texas. Her stint in the Lone Star State exposed her to the infamous 2005 hurricane season-including a near miss from Hurricane Rita! She then spent three years in Portland, Oregon at KOIN-TV. Flooding and mudslides seemed commonplace in the Portland area. And the difference between the coastal and mountain geography brought about unique challenges in forecasting the weather for the west coast.

Christine is a member of the National Weather Association, and holds the American Meteorological Society (AMS) CBM Seal of Approval. She enjoys talking to students and other groups about weather, weather safety and storm preparedness. If you’d like Christine to speak at your school or community organization, email her at cferreira@hearst.com.
