Vigil held for troopers shot in Juniata County

Vigil held for troopers shot in Juniata County
WELL, JANELLE, MEMBERS OF MIFFLIN TOWNSHIP AND REALLY THE COUNTY CAME TOGETHER TONIGHT AND EVEN THOUGH THE DAY IS IT’S FATHER’S DAY, THEY REALLY FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO SHOW UNITY IN THE FACE OF THIS TRAGEDY. NEARLY 100 PEOPLE GATHERED IN THE HEART OF MIFFLIN TOWN TO HONOR TWO STATE TROOPERS, 45 YEAR OLD LIEUTENANT WAGNER, WHO WAS SHOT AND IS IN THE HOSPITAL. AND TO REMEMBER, 29 YEAR OLD JACK ROUGEAU, WHO WAS KILLED. SOME OF THOSE IN ATTENDANCE TONIGHT KNEW ONE OR BOTH OF THEM, BUT THE MAJORITY DIDN’T. BUT THAT DIDN’T MATTER. THEY SAY A SMALL COMMUNITY IS A TIGHT COMMUNITY AND THE PEOPLE THAT PROTECTED AND RISKED THEIR LIVES EVERY DAY SHOULD BE EMBRACED BY THAT COMMUNITY. IN THIS KIND OF SITUATION WHERE PEOPLE COME TOGETHER TO HONOR AN OFFICER THAT DIED IN THE LINE OF DUTY TO PROTECT US LIKE THIS IS WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT. IT’S WHY THESE PEOPLE ARE HERE. THEY JUST THEY’RE HERE BECAUSE THEY WANT TO BE PART OF THIS. WE’RE JUST A HUGE FAMILY IN GENEVA COUNTY. WE HAVE 24,000 PEOPLE, BUT WE ARE ALL ONE BIG FAMILY. AND AT THE END OF THE VIGIL, EVERY WOMAN ASKED TO RAISE THEIR HANDS IN THE SKY TOWARDS GOD AND FACING THE DIRECTION OF PENN STATE HEALTH HERSHEY MEDICAL CENTER, RAISING THEIR HANDS IN THE HOPES THAT LIEUTENANT WAGNER WILL MAKE A FULL RECOVERY

Even though it was Father’s Day, the members of this town and this county believed it was much too important not to show up and show unity in the face of tragedy. In the wake of yesterday’s tragedy nearly 100 people gathered in the heart of Mifflintown to honor two state troopers – 45-year-old Lt. James Wagner, who was shot and is in the hospital in critical condition, and tragically the life of 29-year-old Jacques Rougeau. Some of those in attendance tonight knew one or both troopers – but the majority didn't. That didn't matter because as many said – a small community is a tight-knit community and the people that protect it and risk their lives every day– should be embraced by it. "People come together to honor an officer that died in the line of duty to protect us. Like, this is what it's all about. That's why people are here. They're here because they want to be a part of that,” said resident Jeff Henry."We are a huge family in Juniata County. We have 24,000 people, but we are all one big family,” said EMT, Glenn Kerstetter. At the end of the vigil, everyone was asked to raise their hands towards the sky and face the direction of Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center. Raising their hands in hopes that Lt. Wagner will make a full recovery.
