NOW THE WGAL NEWS EIGHT STORM TEAM FORECAST WITH METEOROLOGIST TJ SPRINGER. IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE WATCHING MYSELF AND CHRISTINE, ON FRIDAY, WE WERE TRACKING A STRONG CELL THAT MOVED OUT OF LANCASTER COUNTY INTO CHESTER COUNTY AND WE WERE WATCHING FOR SOME ROTATION. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DID SEND A CREW OUT TODAY AND THEY HAVE CONFIRMED A TORNADO IN WEST CORN TOWNSHIP IN CHESTER COUNTY, REALLY CLOSE TO THE CHESTER LANCASTER COUNTY LINE. IT WAS AN EF ONE TORNADO. IT WAS ON THE GROUND FOR AROUND FOUR MINUTES WITH SUSTAINED WINDS, MAXIMUM WINDS AT 105MPH. AND IT WAS ON THE GROUND FOR ALMOST TWO MILES AS IT MOVED UP TOWARDS MARTIN’S CORNER. THERE. THANKFULLY, NOTHING TERRIBLY DAMAGING, BUT DID HAVE SOME TREES DOWN, SOME TREES AND A POWER LINES, THINGS OF THAT NATURE AS THAT STRONG STORM BLEW THROUGH THE AREA. NOTHING LIKE THAT TODAY. REALLY NICE OVERALL, IT’S CALM IN THE CAPITAL CITY AS AS WE TAKE THAT LIVE GLANCE IN HARRISBURG, WE’RE GOING TO HAVE A REALLY QUIET NIGHT ALL ACROSS THE BOARD AS HIGH PRESSURE CONTINUES TO BUILD IN BEHIND THIS AREA OF LOW PRESSURE STILL SPINNING OFF TO OUR NORTH AND EAST. THAT HAD A COUPLE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OUT ACROSS THE NORTHERN NEW JERSEY, SOUTHEASTERN NEW YORK. BUT ACROSS THE COMMONWEALTH, THERE WAS A QUIETER DAY. AND I THINK WE’RE GOING TO HAVE A REALLY NICE DAY UNFOLDING AS WE PROGRESS INTO DAD’S DAY TOMORROW AS WE PROGRESS THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY. REALLY NICE CONDITIONS. WE HAD THEM ALL EVENING LONG TONIGHT. WE’RE BACK INTO THE 50S TO NEAR 60. THEN AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE DAY TOMORROW, WE’RE BACK INTO THE LOWER TO MIDDLE 80S. STILL COMFY, BUT A LITTLE WARMER THAN TODAY UNDER PLENTY OF SUNSHINE. FINE. NOW THE GOOD NEWS IS AIR QUALITY GOING, GOING TO IMPROVE A LITTLE BIT, BUT WE’RE STILL GOING TO HAVE THAT MODERATE AIR QUALITY WITH SOME HIGHER LEVELS OF PARTICULATES AND OZONE, THANKS TO THE SMOKE LINGERING IN THE ATMOSPHERE. POLLEN LEVELS GOING TO BE IN THE MODERATE CATEGORY WITH THE SUNSHINE, THE UV INDEX THAT BURN TIME OF ONLY 20 MINUTES. SO BE SURE TO GRAB THE SUNSCREEN IF YOU’RE HEADING OUT FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD. MAYBE SOME PLANS WITH DAD TOMORROW. WE HAD 80 TODAY ARE LOW WAS 60. THIS MORNING, A LITTLE BELOW NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. BUT NOW WE’RE GETTING TO THAT RECORD OF 98 SET BACK IN THE LATE 1930S. WE’RE IN THE 50S NOW. FOR THOSE OF YOU IN SEALANTS GROVE, SAME FOR YORK, HANGING OUT IN THE 50S. IT’S 66 IN CARLISLE AND CHAMBERSBURG. WE’RE AT 68 IN THE RED ROSE CITY FOR OUR DADS. TOMORROW WE’RE BACK IN THE UPPER 60S. BY MIDMORNING, 84 DURING THE AFTERNOON, PLENTY OF SUNSHINE TO GO AROUND. IT’LL BE GREAT FOR GRILLING BY DINNERTIME WITH TEMPS DIPPING BACK TOWARD 80. NOW, AS WE PROGRESS THROUGH THE REST OF OUR NIGHT, WE CAN SEE THE STARRY SKY. AND WITH THAT LIGHT WIND, PERFECT INGREDIENTS TO GET OUR TEMPERATURES TO FALL BACK. SO MAYBE GOOD TO OPEN UP THOSE WINDOWS HEADING THROUGH TOMORROW. WE’RE RIGHT BACK IN THE 70S. BY LUNCHTIME TO AROUND 80 AND WE TOP OUT IN THE 80S. I DON’T THINK WE’RE GOING TO SEE ANY RAIN TOMORROW. THE UPPER LOW IS GOING TO BE FAR ENOUGH AWAY FROM US THAT ANY LIFT, ANY ENERGY ISN’T GOING TO SPARK UP ANYTHING FOR OUR SUNDAY. I THINK THAT’S MAYBE JUST A LITTLE MOISTURE. AND WE PICKED UP HERE ON PREDICTOR. BUT OVERALL A REALLY NICE DAY NOW TALKING TROPICS, WE ARE WATCHING OUT FOR A DISTURBANCE AS WE HEAD THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK. LIKELY GOING TO BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION AND 80% CHANCE OF THAT OVER THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS. SO I’M GOING TO KEEP TABS ON IF YOU HAVE PLANS TO TRAVEL TO THE CARIBBEAN OR MAYBE TO FLORIDA OVER THE NEXT 7 TO 10 DAYS. OUR NEWS EIGHT STORM TEAM, TEN DAY FORECAST SHOWS TEMPERATURES IN THE MIDDLE 80S ON TUESDAY MAY SEE A STRAY SHOWER OR STORM. SAME FOR WEDNESDAY AS SUMMER BEGINS. BUT OUR HIGHEST CHANCES OF RAIN. WE’RE GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT A LITTLE BIT LONGER. I THINK LATE FRIDAY, ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. JERRY LOOKING A LITTLE UNSETTLED WITH MORE WIDESPREAD CHANCES

More sunshine in tap for Fathers' Day

The first half of the weekend has been pleasant albeit a little hazy. Temps are looking even warmer Sunday with plenty of sun for Father's Day. Meteorologist T.J. Springer talks about how long the sunshine lasts.

High pressure has been building in little by little as this area of low pressure is still spinning to our northeast. That has lead to more sunshine today with pleasant conditions. There is still an Air Quality Alert though for the remainder of day thanks to the smoke in the atmosphere as well as ozone levels. If you're more sensitive, you definitely want to limit your outdoor exposure. Starry conditions are on the table overnight with the breeze lightening up a little bit. Lows dip back into the middle 50s to around 60s which is close to average or this time of year. As high pressure continues to take over, we'll see even more sunshine for Father's Day. Highs surge back into the lower and middle 80s which is par for the course for mid-June. It'll be beautiful to be outside with Dad. The ridging leads to warmer temperatures as we kick-off the workweek with highs expected to approach the 90 degree mark. As an area of low pressure moves toward us from the SW Tuesday with another one is dropping in from the north. Between the two disturbances, a stay shower or storm is possible. Chances aren't looking high at the moment. We keep this trend for Wednesday with the low to our SW moving closer to us. As this area of low pressure moves eastbound, we'll tap into more of a SE flow and that allows the moisture content to increase some late week. That makes for muggier conditions and eventually brings more rain chances. Any rain will aid in the rain deficit throughout the region. The low finally moves in late Friday into Saturday with more widespread showers and storms possible. As this wave exits off the coast, another one is on the approach from the NW. This keeps things unsettled as we progress into the following week. More hit or miss showers and thunderstorms are on the table Monday and Tuesday with highs staying seasonable for this time of year. Expect afternoon readings in the lower to middles 80s.Happy Father's Day!-T.J.
