York City Police Response To Use Of Force IncidentOn Friday, June 16, 2023, at approximately 3:45 pm, the York City Police Department became aware of a video circulating on social media depicting two York City police officers using force on a member of the York City community. Internal affairs are currently investigating this use of force. Despite this ongoing internal affairs investigation, below is what is presently known. On Friday, June 16, 2023, at approximately 12:15 pm, York City Police spoke with a female witness who stated that she became aware that a male, identified as Anthony Balbi-Reyes, was hitting an unknown female at an address in the 100 block of West Maple Street.According to police, this female witness could hear the attacks occurring in the residence. Additionally, this female witness chased Reyes out of the house with a bat.A video was shown to officers portraying Reyes at the female witnesses’ side door, where he threatened to kill the assaulted female victim. Officers eventually spoke to the female victim, who advised that Reyes unlawfully entered her residence through a window armed with a pistol. The two began to argue, and Reyes struck the female victim in the head with his firearm. Police say that Reyes continued to attack and beat the female victim, even dragging her across the floor by her hair. According to police, Reyes took the victim’s phone and glasses before being chased away by the witness. The female victim had injuries consistent with the events she told police.These police officers then went to an address in the 100 block of West Jackson Street to speak to Reyes. Reyes admitted to police that he unlawfully entered the victim’s residence and “gripped her up.”As police attempted to arrest Reyes, he resisted and fought with officers. During the struggle to place Reyes under arrest, he punched one of the officers in the face causing an injury to the right side of his face.Officers used force to get Reyes into handcuffs. Reyes was arrested and is being charged with the following offenses: burglary, aggravated assault on a police officer, terroristic threats, simple assault, and resisting arrest.Reyes is presumed innocent until found guilty. An internal affairs investigation is underway for the officer’s use of force.
