A UC DAVIS GRADUATE STUDENT IS MAKING HISTORY AS ONE OF THE YOUNGEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD TO GET HIS PHD AT JUST 19 YEARS OLD, TONY’S MATTHEW ABRAHAM IS HERE. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING US THIS MORNING. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME. CONGRATULATIONS. SO FIRST, TELL US WHAT YOUR PHD IS IN MY PHD IS IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING AND MY RESEARCH WAS ABOUT APPLYING MEDICAL AI TO MICROSCOPY AND PATHOLOGY. OH, MY GOSH. SO HOW DID YOU GET TO THIS POINT? BECAUSE THAT COVERS HIGH SCHOOL, UNDERGRAD, MASTER’S PH. I MEAN, IT’S A LONG ROAD. YEAH. SO I ACTUALLY STARTED TAKING COMMUNITY COLLEGE CLASSES AT A VERY YOUNG AGE. AT SEVEN YEARS OLD. SEVEN. YES. AND THEN I GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL WHEN I WAS TEN YEARS OLD. AND THEN I TRANSFERRED TO UC DAVIS FOR MY UNDERGRAD DEGREE AT 12 YEARS OLD. AND I GRADUATED FROM UC DAVIS WITH MY BACHELOR’S IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING AT 14. AND THEN AFTERWARDS I IMMEDIATELY STARTED MY PHD. OH MY GOODNESS. I MEAN, YOU REALLY ARE JUST SO UNIQUE. I MEAN, YOU’RE MAKING HISTORY. HOW DOES IT FEEL TO KNOW THAT YOUR GRADUATE IS MAKING HISTORY? I THINK, YEAH, IT’S VERY EXCITING. IT’S BEEN A LONG JOURNEY FOR ME, SO IT’S VERY REWARDING TO TO BE HERE AT THIS POINT. BUT I’M ALSO REALLY HAPPY TO HEAR HOW I’VE INSPIRED SO MANY PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD WHO’VE HEARD ABOUT MY JOURNEY AS WELL. SO THAT REALLY I’M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT. AND YEAH, IT’S JUST A, I GUESS, A BIG MOMENT FOR ME. YEAH, I TOLD YOU BEFORE YOU CAME IN, YOU’RE LIKE THE SMARTEST PERSON IN THE BUILDING HERE RIGHT NOW. TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT YOU PLAN TO DO NEXT. I KNOW YOU SAID YOUR RESEARCH IS IN MEDICAL AND AI. WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING TO DO? YEAH, I PLAN. I PLAN TO CONTINUE DOING RESEARCH IN MEDICAL. I ACTUALLY HAVE A RESEARCH ORGANIZATION THAT I FOUNDED DEDICATED TO MEDICAL AI RESEARCH, SO I PLAN TO CONTINUE ALONG THAT ROUTE. AND YEAH, I PROBABLY WILL DO A POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR. SO JUST CONTINUE WITH RESEARCH AS WELL. YEAH, REALLY EXCITED BECAUSE AI IS OF COURSE A VERY GROWING, IT’S A GROWING FIELD RIGHT NOW AND ESPECIALLY APPLICATIONS OF AI TO MEDICINE IS REALLY EXCITING FOR ME. SO YEAH, I MEAN YOU’VE ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED SOMETHING THAT SOME PEOPLE DON’T DO BY THE TIME THEY’RE 50, WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT TEN YEARS OR SO? YEAH, I THINK I PROBABLY WILL CONTINUE TO, TO BECOME, YOU KNOW, TO, TO PURSUE RESEARCH AND YEAH, I JUST REALLY HOPE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH, WITH THE WORK THAT I’M DOING. SO YEAH, THERE’S, YOU KNOW, THE PATH IS I GUESS THERE’S SO MUCH THAT I COULD BE DOING. SO WE’LL SEE HOW THIS GOES. AND YEAH, REALLY EXCITED FOR THE FUTURE. YEAH, I THINK IT’S GOING WELL. WE HAVE LIKE 15 SECONDS LEFT. YOUR FINAL PIECE OF ADVICE, IF SOMEONE WANTS TO GET A PHD, I GUESS HOPEFULLY IT’S SOMETHING THAT YOU’RE REALLY PASSIONATE IN BECAUSE YOU KNOW IT IS A VERY LONG PROCESS AND THERE’S LOTS OF UPS AND DOWNS. SO YEAH, SOMETHING THAT YOU’RE PASSIONATE IN AND OF COURSE LOTS OF HARD WORK THAT’S INVOLVED. BUT YEAH, IT WAS, IT WAS A REALLY FUN EXPERIENCE. WOW. WELL, TONY, CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AN
