Elverson, Pa. (WGAL) – Amidst the hazy skies this afternoon at Twin Valley High School, Cumberland Valley softball advanced to the 6A state semifinals for the first time in nine years with a 14-5 win over Haverford.
Down 4-1 in the third inning, Marley Martin’s hard line drive down the third base line scored two runs for the Eagles. In the same inning, Martin would cross home plate to tie up the game at four.
Just one inning later, Emma Morgan belted a two-run shot over the fence in right-center field to make the score 7-4.
The Eagles added to their lead, scoring five runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth inning to close out the win.
Their opponent in Monday's semifinal will be Hempfield (District 7) after they defeated Downtown East 2-0.
