AS HE BEGINS A BOOK TOUR ACROSS PENNSYLVANIA, I SPOKE WITH DAVE MCCORMICK ABOUT THE WARNING HE SOUNDS IN SUPERPOWER IN PERIL ABOUT THE THREAT CHINA POSES AND HOW AMERICA SHOULD RESPOND, DECOUPLE STRATEGICALLY SEMICONDUCTORS, PHARMACEUTICALS. WE NEED TO HOLD CHINA ACCOUNTABLE FOR BAD BEHAVIOR. THE WUHAN LAB IS IS THE BEST EXAMPLES WE NEED TO STOP LETTING OUR COMPANIES INVEST IN CHINA IN WAYS THAT COUNTERS UNITED STATES INTERESTS. MCCORMICK WAS ATTACKED DURING THE REPUBLICAN SENATE PRIMARY FOR BEING SOFT ON CHINA DUE TO PRIOR BUSINESS DEALINGS. THAT WAS NEVER ACCURATE DURING THE CAMPAIGN. WHAT’S CHANGED IS THAT THREATS GOTTEN EVEN WORSE, AND PARTICULARLY WITH THE RISE OF PRESIDENT XI AFTER LOSING THE DR. MEHMET OZ BY LESS THAN 1000 VOTES, MCCORMICK ISN’T RULING OUT ANOTHER SENATE RUN IN 2024. THE MOTIVATION FOR THE BOOK WAS, HEY, WE’RE HEADED TOWARD WRETCHED. I’M NOT SURE WHETHER THE BEST WAY TO DO THAT IS TO RUN FOR THE SENATE. SO WE’RE THINKING ABOUT IT AND PRAYING ABOUT IT AS A FAMILY. IT’S A BIG COMMITMENT. MCCORMICK SAYS REPUBLICANS NEED TO GET SMARTER IN THE NEXT ELECTION, GET BEHIND CANDIDATES WHO CAN WIN. THAT’S THE FIRST THING. SECOND THING, I DON’T THINK WE CAN RUN AND WIN ELECTIONS AS REPUBLICANS ARE LOOKING BACKWARDS. I THINK WE GOT TO LOOK FORWARD AND LAY OUT OUR VISION. THE PEOPLE I MET ON THE TRAIL IN PENNSYLVANIA, I TALK ABOUT INFLATION AND FENTANYL AND AND CHINA. WHAT IS OUR PLAN? GETTING VOTERS REGISTERED VOTER REGISTRATION AND ALSO ABSENTEE BALLOTS FOR COMBAT VETERAN AND FORMER HEDGE FUND CEO SAYS WITHIN POLLUTION, BANKS FAILING AND THREATS ABROAD, REPUBLICANS HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN BACK A PENNSYLVANIA SENATE

Former Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick has released a book. It's fueling speculation he might run again for a Pennsylvania Senate seat in 2024.

In an interview you'll only see on News 8, Barbara Barr talked with him about that and the book.

"We're in decline economically. We're in decline from a national security perspective," he said.

As he begins a book tour across Pennsylvania, McCormick spoke about the warning he sounds in "Superpower in Peril" about the threat China poses and how America should respond.

"Decouple strategically – semiconductors, pharmaceuticals. We need to hold China accountable for bad behavior. The Wuhan lab is the best example. We need to stop letting our companies invest in China in ways that counter United States interests," he said.

McCormick was attacked during the GOP Senate primary for being soft on China due to prior business dealings.

"That was never accurate during the campaign. What's changed is that threat's gotten even worse and particularly with the rise of President Xi," he said.

After losing to Dr. Mehmet Oz by less than 1,000 votes, McCormick isn't ruling out another Senate run in 2024.

"The motivation for the book was, 'Hey, we're headed in the wrong direction.' I'm not sure whether the best way to do that's to run for the Senate, so we're thinking about it and praying about it as a family. It's a big commitment," he said.

McCormick says Republicans need to get smarter in the next election.

"Get behind candidates who can win, that's the first thing. Second thing, I don't think we can run and win elections as Republicans looking backward. I think we've got to look forward and lay out our vision. The people I met on the trail in Pennsylvania want to talk about inflation and fentanyl and China. What is our plan? Getting voters registered, voter registration, and absentee ballots," he said.

The combat veteran and former hedge fund CEO said with inflation, banks failing and threats abroad, Republicans have a chance to win back a Pennsylvania Senate seat.

McCormick is scheduled to speak at a leadership conference in camp hill at the end of the month. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is also listed as a speaker.
